We have been asked on several occasions why our English sessions go for two hours and why we integrate the reading and writing process in every session. Hopefully, this article will answer that question. Although we now also assist students develop their mathematical skills, we still believe that literacy is probably the single-most important part of education. It is our belief that without literacy, all other learning is impossible. What is literacy? Literacy involves the integration of speaking, listening and critical thinking with reading and writing.

The Angelicum is administered by the Dominican Order and is the order's central locus of Thomist theology and philosophy. The Angelicum is coeducational and offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in theology, philosophy, canon law , and social sciences, as well as certificates and diplomas in related areas. Courses are offered in Italian and for some programs in English. The Angelicum is staffed by clergy and laity and serves both religious and lay students from around the world. The Angelicum has its roots in the Dominican mission to study and to teach truth. This mission is reflected in the Order's motto, " Veritas ". The distinctively pedagogical character of the Dominican apostolate as intended by Saint Dominic de Guzman in at the birth of the Order, "the first order instituted by the Church with an academic mission,"  is succinctly expressed by another of the Order's mottos, contemplare et contemplata aliis tradere , to contemplate and to bear the fruits of contemplation to others.
Fortunately, we are in a position to do so without having to overturn the current higher education system or break the bank, writes Jonathan Haber. For close to 50 years, educators and politicians from classrooms to the Oval Office have stressed the importance of graduating students who are skilled critical thinkers. Similarly, our democracy is today imperiled not by lack of access to data and opinions about the most important issues of the day, but rather by our inability to sort the true from the fake or hopelessly biased.
